About PL Ranch
PL Ranch was established in 2004 by a group of Dallas businessmen that were seasoned hunters looking to form a hunting club on property they owned. The land was purchased from members of an old Throckmorton County family that had descended from the original land grantees in the 1800's.

Upon acquisition of the property, the team constructed a roughly 2000 sqft lodge facility that includes a commercial style kitchen, a large den area with satellite TV, a game area with a full size shuffleboard table, a washer/drier facility, storeroom, Member sign in area, and an upstairs loft. Connected to the lodge are seven of the ten private rooms - each of which includes a private full bath. Two of the rooms are currently used as guest rooms even though most members have capacity to sleep their quests in their own private rooms if desired. The lodge and quarters building sports full covered porches on both sides. A separate quarters building houses an additional three member rooms constructed in the same manner. The views from the back porches are spectacular at sunset each night. The facility also has a outdoor cooking area with multiple grills and smokers on a rock promenade.

Complementing the lodge and quarters is a large barn which also houses the facility water collection and pumping system. A central propane tank feds gas water heating and main lodge HVAC needs. Room HVAC is provided by individual terminal type HVAC units for each room.

The property itself consists of 1860 acres owned by PL Ranch, LLC. In addition, approximately 900 acres are leased from adjoining landowners. The property is located in one of the best hunting terrains in West Texas. The property is abundant with water including two large lakes and many ponds, has over 60% heavy tree cover, and several large fields that afford excellent dove hunting. The terrain varies from open, high plateaus around the lodging facilities to steep valleys with heavy cover toward the back of the property. The property is connected with a well maintained road system from the access point off Highway 380 to the entry of the ranch more than a mile off the road. Critical areas leading to the lodging facility are heavily covered in gravel to allow all-weather access even for two wheel drive trucks and cars.

Cooperative hunting with neighbors on the surrounding properties has allowed the deer herd to be matured and it has produced some outstanding bucks for a non-high fenced property over the years. Excellent duck and dove hunting, fantastic fishing, hogs, and an abundance of quail and turkey are found across the property. A five bearded turkey has been shot on the property as well as another turkey that could rank high in the state record books. The property also offers great day and night varmint hunting including all the usual suspects like racoons, bobcats, foxes and coyotes as well as some unusual game like porcupines and even badgers. Together the rich diversity of this premium hunting property makes for an experience like few others available this close to the metroplex.

One of the special aspects of PL Ranch is the involvement of member's children, grandchildren and extended family members. The large facility provides something for everyone and plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have a great time. A family friendly environment was important to the members from the beginning so developing and maintaining a facility that is welcoming, safe and comfortable for the youngsters, the grandparents, the wives, sisters, nephews and nieces continues to be a focus of the organization. Members do enjoy specially designated "Members Only" weekends at times as well. With plenty of opportunity for fun, there is something for everyone year round.
